Appendicitis Wrap Up

Just crunched all the numbers. Pretty shocking for a routine appendectomy and overnight hospital stay. Thought I would share:

Total amount claimed by providers: $33,389.61
Total amount provider-insurance discounts: $7,996.79
Total amount paid by insurance: $3,350.53
Total amount billed to me: $18,551.15
Total amount paid by me: $2,026.04

Thanks be to God! Also thanks be to friends, family, and professors who helped me navigate the system. Wow!

Therapy on the silver screen

http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi1432683545/

Just Wright - a physical therapist (Queen Latifah) helps a basketball player recover from a job-threatening injury. They fall in love. Unethical physical therapy practice ensues. Interesting blog post from the APTA blog - isn't it a good thing in the end that therapy is being portrayed in a movie at all? I spotted a few physioballs and some scrubs. I'll be there.

The Happiest Hour

Last day of physcial therapy school... ever. Celebrating at Blue Mesa.

Cheers to all of our hard work! "There are good ships and there are bad ships..."

Lots of laughs!

I don't think the reality has set in...

Life Lessons

So... been meaning to make this post for a while now. Better late than never~

The Top Ten Life Lessons I Learned At Dell Children's Hospital:

10. Watching Grey's Anatomy has scarred me: Every time I walk by the "On Call" room, I assume residents are in there having sex.

9. Boys have a tendency to light themselves on fire.

8. There is a 9 year old boy in Austin named "Little Bear" (first name).

7. Out of all the songs in the world, not one, but TWO mothers have chosen "Birthday Sex" as their ringtone. (And of course their phone would ring during therapy.)

6. I NEVER want a pilonidal cyst.

5. No amount of PT school can prepare you for the stress of performing sharp debriedment on a squirmy 4 year old.

4. There is a certain smell kids possess after surgery: a mix of not brushing their teeth, sweat and the beginnings of "movement" that only a PT can evoke! Not something I am going to miss about acute care!

3. Of all of the places on the body to develop an abscess, most are in places covered by undies.

2. Explosive diarrhea is a real thing, and it will occur when the 4 month old is sitting in your lap. And no, a diaper will not contain it.

1. Despite all- I love working with kids!

Double Rainbow

There was a HUGE double rainbow over our house tonight. The bottom rainbow is the brightest rainbow I think I'd ever seen! You could see both ends of it and it was right over our house! In the photo below you can see both of themn more clearly.

I think we're definitely ready for two weeks from now!!! Go Pioneers!

Mother Daughter Brunch to Celebrate Maggie's Engagement

What a super fun time! I'm so glad we decided to do this and that it worked out for everyone's schedules. In both of the group shots Rozan's eyes are closed, but I'm going to try to get my friend who's a photographer to fix it so we can keep this one, because it's special! Maggie, I've been playing around on picnik, can you tell? I'll email yall originals soon.
