Louisiana Visit

Here are some photos from our trip home to be with family last weekend. The puppies LOVE playing in the water (especially Dixie). They are so much fun. They can now both catch things in their mouths when you toss to them. You can see from the photo and video that Mason will get into the water in the shallow end, but he's not so into fetching, his forte is waiting near the edge to steal whatever Dixie fetches, out of her mouth. lol! And you can see how she feels about that!

The rest of these photos (non-puppy) are taken with my new Nikon D5000 SLR camera that I love!! I'm still in the begginer phase of cognitive learning, but thankfully it has an auto setting! :)

Aubrey got a little hyper after having half of a strawberry cream limeade from Sonic, so on the last night we were there, she designed an acrobatic routine that she performed about 10 times in a row! lol! On the last time, I decided to get a video and of course, that was the one time she got fussy the whole weekend, so this isn't a good representation of Aubrey's easy going personality, but it's still pretty funny to see her in action! We had a great time playing with her!

The Sights of Cincy

6 weeks down and 6 to go!! We're half way through our last internship, friends! My midterm went just fine, and I'm looking forward to the weeks ahead, which is fun to be able to say. So this last week, one of my 17 month old patients sneezed and spit up at the same time. It was confusing/weird/on me. I didn't know such things were possible.
My roommate and I finally tried the famous Cincinnati chili, and it was delicious! There are multiple places to get it, so we'll see if I try any others. Believe it or not, I couldn't finish this meal...now that's a hearty meal.

I drove through a pretty park in the city and saw this frozen pond. Apparently that's kind of common up here?
I've seen a few more sights in Cincy during these past two weeks, so I thought I'd share some pictures with y'all! On my day off this week, I went to Krohn's Conservatory, which is basically a huge greenhouse...kind of like an indoor arboretum.





Be thankful those are the only ones I put up here...I have so many more to choose from!

Today, Amanda and I went to visit St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in northern Kentucky (only about 15 minutes away). The building of it began in 1894, and it is incredible! It was easily as pretty as some of the cathedrals in Europe.
As Amanda and I were walking from the parking lot into the Basilica, a car slowed down next to us with some sketchy guy hanging out the window. His cat call was, "Heyyyyy. I like the church. ::pause:: Yeah...Christianity!!" And then another guy drove by and said something that I don't want to repeat. So the Cathedral wasn't in the nicest area.

I loved this stained glass window of Jesus with the children.

There were mosaics around the whole cathedral that showed the stages of the road to the cross. The details were unbelievable.

All of the wood in here was hand-carved. I mean, really?

THE GOOD

Last Thursday, I went to a Howie Day concert (the guy who sings "collide"). My cousin's friend Nick just moved to Austin and we are determined to take advantage of the "music scene". We decided on good ol' Howie for our first go around. The concert was really good. Definitely got to see some "wierd" Austin peeps but it was nice b/c there was only about 100 people there.






The opener was a guy named "Mikey Wax" who was actually pretty good and impressed us by playing the piano and guitar at the same time! After the concert, there was Mikey... all by his lonesome... so we decided to take a pic with him :-)

THE BAD

Well... the NICU nurses officially hate me! Saturday, my CI and I covered IP and OP wound care for the hospital. Our first patient was a cute 2 week old born with "epidermolysis bullosa" on her 4 extremities and neck (basically REALLY fragile skin which leads her to blister off her top layer of skin)... oh and MRSA. The baby was sedated because it is so painful. So the treatment is a long one (2.5 hours) with multiple doctors in and out who are at a loss of what to do. Towards the end... Tory and I were finishing up and needed the nurse to come in and hold her head while we treated her neck b/c she is intubated. We are hardly ever in the NICU and were in our "contact precaution attire" so she told me to push the "nursing assistance" button. I did... and evidently that was the CODE button! Several doctors and nurses came running in to revive our pt who was fine :-) I felt like an idiot and wondered if she was going to take the blame... luckily she did and I will know for next time!

THE UGLY

Today's wound care eval: 4yr old with perianal abscess. Enough said.

Red, White, and Blue

The title is simply to acknowledge the fact that I am always obsessed with the Olympics, and this year is no different. I have seen pretty much every minute of the game that has been televised thus far. Unfortunately, that is going to have to stop since I'm in the dang Eastern Time Zone, and things wrap up at about midnight. Homie can't play that during the week. As y'all probably know, there are very few things that make me cry...however, medal ceremonies come dangerously close. Weird, I know. I immediately wanted to be best friends with Hannah Kearney after she dominated the moguls...she has yet to text me back.

Warning, I have a ton of pictures in this blog! And the first ones are rather gruesome. After snowing so much last weekend, it snowed again all day Tuesday. When Amanda got home she asked if I had seen what happened to the snowman. I went outside and saw this...

Much to our horror, dear Frosty had been decapitated. We don't know if it was from wind or the additional snow. We knew he wouldn't have wanted an autopsy, so one was not performed.

This Saturday morning a friend of mine since birth (literally) was in town from Michigan with her youth group. They were going to be at the Cincinnati Zoo, so I decided to join in! I told her she knows I love her since it was 11 degrees outside when I left my house. Here come the animals...
